Take your next steps towards the stage or screen!

Acting 2: Next Steps is an intensive short course based in the arts precinct at Southbank (Melbourne). The eight-week acting short course focuses on building the strengths and talents of each individual participant. Following a similar framework to Acting 1, Acting 2 provides an opportunity to further develop your techniques, confidence and self-assurance. 

Acting 2: Next Steps explores: 

  • Script and scene work 
  • How to put essential acting skills into practice 
  • Character development 
  • Effective word usage to generate character choices 
  • How to break down text into workable units 

Acting 2 is led by industry professional Sarah Cathcart, a VCA Alumni who has been making and teaching theatre for over two decades and is a qualified teacher of the Alexander Technique. Cathcart has toured solo shows, The Serpent’s Fall, Walking on Sticks and Tiger Country, around Australia and internationally. Tiger Country also appeared in the Melbourne International Arts Festival Previously the artistic director of the Women’s CircusCathcart has been commissioned by Malthouse Theatre to create CARGO: The True Adventures of Mary Bryant whose script was later selected for VCE Drama. Cathcart has also co-written and directed shows for independent companies around Australia including Darwin based Business Unusual and YGLAM Queer Youth Theatre.

This course is suitable for 17+ year olds who have completed Acting 1 or equivalent.
