Centre for Ideas

The Centre for Ideas marks a radical departure from the conventional teaching and research models in arts education. Working directly with disciplines at the VCA and the Parkville campus, the Centre offers a range of interdisciplinary graduate courses and breadth subjects.

Working at the intersection of Philosophy and the visual and performing Arts, the Art+Philosophy research cluster to explores, maps and shapes the ongoing dialogue between the Arts and Philosophy.

Over the last few decades philosophical schemas have proven to have an enormous impact on both the production and reception of art works just as developments in contemporary aesthetics have taken on unprecedented importance for critical reflection.  Our research explores the connections between discursive analytical thought, and intuitive ‘artistic’ perception and practice by bringing artists and

philosophers together to generate new paradigms. Our outcomes include conference, symposia, studios, publications, exhibitions, performances and collaborative projects.
