Entry requirements

International applicants

An international student is any student who is not a citizen or permanent resident of Australia, a citizen of New Zealand or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa.

 

 

Specific Course Entry Requirements

 The Selection Committee will evaluate the applicant’s ability to pursue successfully the course using the following criteria:

EITHER

 

  • an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification, with a GPA of 65% over the last two (2) years of study;
    OR
  • at least five (5) years of documented relevant work experience related to film and television, with evidence of artistic ability and achievement or practice comparable to that of undergraduate degree holders in relevant disciplines;
    AND
  • an interview. (Please refer to Selection Process tab for further information) Previous experience in film and television at any level is not necessarily a determinant, but may be presented by the applicant. If the applicant chooses to present any examples of previous work at the interview this may be done on DVD only, but this will not be the only determinant for admission.

 

The Selection Committee may call for referee reports or employer references to elucidate any of the matters referred to above.

 

 

Supporting Documentation Requirements

 If you have completed your bachelor's degree at the University of Melbourne you do not need to submit a hard copy of your results, simply make sure you give us your student ID. 

 

  • Applicants are required to provide officially certified hard-copies of academic transcripts for all prior studies not completed at the University of Melbourne or the Victorian College of the Arts, along with proof of course completion (where claimed) for each previous qualification.
  • If studying outside the University of Melbourne in the current semester, then you are required to provide, with your application, an official record/transcript of your current course results to date.
  • Applicants need to provide the Faculty with an officially certified hard-copy of their final transcript, and proof of course completion, as soon as these become available.
  • If any documentation is in a language other than English, an official certified translation must be provided. Results documentation must include an official key to the meaning of the grades.

 

 The definition of a certified copy is a photocopy of the original document which has the signature and official stamp of one of the following people: barrister or solicitor, Police in Charge of Station, Pharmacist, Doctor, Dentist, Principal of School, Justice of Peace, Clerk of Court indicating that they have sighted the original document.

 

 While it is possible to upload electronic copies of your transcripts during the online application process, you must also mail us directly (by post), certified copies of all academic documents before an offer can be made.

English Language Requirements

In addition to the course entry requirements, all applicants must establish they meet the University’s English language requirements.

Advanced Standing (Credit) For Prior Learning

 Credit is available to those who meet the criteria as per the University’s Advanced Standing Policy.
Applicants who are eligible can apply for credit for previous studies already completed at tertiary level. Studies for which you have applied for credit must demonstrate to the selection panel:

  • comparable content
  • comparable content
  • equivalent in standard
  • suitable to be included as part of your course at the Faculty, and
  • in some cases, credit for work or other prior learning experience which can be demonstrated to be relevant to a course

 

 Applications for advanced standing should be made to the Student Centre when a student first enrols into their course. Your application will be assessed and you will be advised accordingly.

 Online Application Form to be completed and submitted by all applicants by the closing date - 5 November 2012
 

 

If applicants have issues with internet access or other extenuating circumstances they may download the International Graduate Application Form and submit this form by the closing dates above to:

STEP 3 - Supplementary Application Form

Applicants must complete and submit the Supplementary Form (pdf file, 343kb)  by the closing date - 5 November 2012. Interviews cannot be scheduled without this form.

STEP 4 - DVD Interview

  • International applicants must provide a DVD interview responding to the interview questions which will be emailed to you on receipt of your application.
  • The School may follow up with a telephone interview, so please provide a telephone number at which you can be contacted during Australian business hours. 

 

The DVD interview MUST be submitted within six (6) weeks of receipt of the topics and no later than 19 November 2012 to:

Note: Applicants are welcome to attend an interview in person instead of sending a DVD interview. Please advise the Student Centre by email to vcam-research@unimelb.edu.au if you wish to attend your interview in person.


 

STEP 5 – Check Your Emails

The Faculty will communicate with applicants via email. Please check your email, including junk and quarantine folders. Applicants are strongly advised not to use a hotmail address as these often go into your junk box. By using such accounts you risk failing to receive our correspondence.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • The Faculty encourages international applicants to submit their applications as early as possible to allow ample time for selection, offer and visa processes.
  • Delays may occur in the processing of applications which are incomplete
  • All written and visual documentation will be retained by the Faculty
  • Information provided in languages other than English, must be accompanied by an official certified translation
  • Folio materials sent by courier/post are the responsibility of the applicant. The Faculty will not accept responsibility for lost and/or damaged materials.
