Life Drawing

This class will cover all aspects of life drawing. You will be involved in a thorough exploration of the human form and learn in a practical way about methods of measurement, scale and space; about form, line and tone. The class is designed for a wide range of students and will allow ample opportunity for individual discussion with your lecturer.
Dates: 6.7,13,and 14th July (4 days - 2 weekends)

Sculpture Workshop

IMG_3712.jpg  Material translations is concerned with sculptural processes of modelling, mould making and casting. Concepts of the original and the copy will be explored through the course, as will processes of recording surface and form.

The context for the courses activities will be structured around current art practice and how moulding and casting are used to generate meaning, association or form.

Participants will have the opportunity to create a mould of both a found object and also a sculpted clay form. The course will introduce students to different materials and processes through a range of mould making and casting techniques, for example creating a two-piece plaster mould. Participants will experience what happens in the translation of objects from one material to another and the effect the process has in the finished piece.

Drawing Workshop

To aid the student with the key artistic practice of drawing and to help locate and express their personal ideas and contexts through the act of multi-faceted mark making. Participants will gain a greater insight into the variants of specific materials with the aim of discovery what materials are best suited to what ideas. The key aim is to assist the participants to discover the role drawing can have in their own practice and to see how it as an action of thought.

Bronze Casting

Trans:form is an intensive introduction to the lost-wax process of bronze casting.

Students will be guided through the technical processes of creating a sculpture made from wax before transforming this object into bronze.

Contemporary Painting Techniques

The course includes instruction in surface preparation, palette preparation and maintenance, paint application methods, colour theory and colour mixing, tonal value analysis as an under-painting, colour relationships that establish form and space, painting from life and personal interpretation.
